It’s been a while since I’ve posted on my website. The people who follow me on facebook know that my season has ended. A little recap since Klosters. We, Cleve and I went to the double Europa Cup in Saalbach Aut. I took 5th and 10th place there. The course was slushy and a bit dangerous. After that we went to a National Cup and Europa Cup in Grasheren GER. I rode ok and got 5th and 6th messing up in semi’s both times. With no time to waist off to Valemalenco for the last 2 World cups of the season. It was a super nice course but the warm conditions and wind made it dificult. First race I qualified 15th and ended up 14th. The second race I went out first round aswell and ended up 19th. I was a dificult season! Thanks for the support!

I’m back in Klosters right now! The snow and mountains reminded me of the awesome pow I rid here in January.. I forgot to share it. Here’s a little edit from one of the sessions. I hope to ride some more of that sweet snow this week!

Enjoy the course? I did! We had some great weather and the training was realy nice! It didn’t come out in the competition as I ended up 22cnd. I had a bad start and lost momentum and I couldn’t get my riding together in the rest of the heat. I’m dissapointed but now I’m off to Switzerland and than Austria to ride some Europa Cups. Revelstoke was the bomb! I’ll update you asap on that trip!

We flew from Denver to Toronto on a little plane trough a lot of snow but the de-icer was wearing a hawaiin blouse and shorts. We spent two nights in Toronto as our coach Frank and physio Stefan flew in from Amsterdam. We did some touristic sight seeing by the CN tower and we drove around in our Stow and Go minivan. Blue Mtn is a new destination on the tour. I had no iedea what to expect other than it was an Eastcoast style mountain. That means it can be freezing and the mountain looks more like a hill. Blue Mtn is actually really beautiful it’s right near one of the great lakes, it’s the size of Great Brittain. The mountain was indeed a hill and we could even drive up to the top of the hill and park the car at the near  the course. The first day it was pretty warm when we trained it this course full of features and high jumps. It was all man made snow so the snow looked like indoor snow.. sugar and ice. All the volunteers did their best on side slipping the cours. The next day it was flat light, wind from the north so windy and a windchil of minus 20 and a icy hard course. I had trouble adjusting to the conditions but I qualified 19th for the finals the next day. The next day luckely wasn’t so cold and the sun came back. Racing with 6 people is a big challenge and there’s a lot more chance that people crash. I didn’t have the best start but got out of the way of a big crash and stayed on my feet as my board touched an other board. I made it to the next round. In semi’s I lost it at the start of the race and ended up racing in the small finals. I had a stupid crash on the rollers and took 11th. I’m happy as this is my best result this season..

Now I’m off to Revelstoke.. Keep you updated!

I received an invitation for X Games 16 right before the games started. The course was nice and smooth with a big road gap and a nice box. We had two trainingdays which was really nice because the coure was long. The training went good I stepped up my game the second day and rode some good runs. It snowed during the night and as we went up for our single qualifying run we saw that the course had slowed down. It had a big impact for the girls because we couldn’t make the rode gap or the box. After a lot of discussion the guys went first and we had to qualifiy the next morning. That meant we had a long day of quali and finals. The next day I made it into the finals and could start in the first heat. I didn’t have a good start and mist the transition of the first jump which made me miss the draft and I ended up 6th in that heat. The small final was better but could not pass and ended up 12th. My teammate Cleve had a great fight in his heat but didn’t make it into the next round by a foot and ended up 18th.

The X Games in Aspen is such a great event I hope it stays in Aspen!

A small impression of the snowboardcross cours in Veysonnaz. Check it out and ride with me!

So it seems the time has come to make a hard decision. After my 4th knee surgery on the same knee I endured constant pain. The whole summer I trained really hard to get my muscles as strong as possible to give competitive snowboardcross another chance. But after riding a week with Bell and the rest of the Dutch SBX national team I felt too much pain to train properly. My mind still wanted to pursuit 100% but physically this is no longer possible. I made the hardest decision of my life by retiring from competitive snowboardcross. I hope the Dutchies ride hard for me…

Snowboarding is my passion I’ll keep riding every chance I get. Never give up!

I want to thank all the SBX riders for the sweet times we had!

Britt

We signed up for a 3-day Avalanche course here in Klosters together with ex-SBX rider Sandra Frei and 3 others. It’s important to be aware of the dangers of the backcountry. In these 3 days we learned new routs in the region and how to make our own, walking on snowshoes, reading and interpreting the avalanche warnings, riding in groups and avalanche rescue. The first 2 days it was beautiful and warm weather after a great snowfall. We walked a lot and found some great steep powder!
The 3rd day it was snowing and the visibility was poor so we spent a lot of time practicing rescue methods but finished the day with a great powder run all the way down to Davos. We would encourage everyone who likes powder riding to take such a course. You learn a lot and find more powder☺. For all the Dutchies check out: www.snowsafety.nl

I had good summer training and worked really hard to be back and stronger for this season. I was in Aspen training with my teambuddy Cleve Johnson and the rest of the National SBX team for the first World Cup SBX in Telluride when I got a call that a dear friend of mine died in a car accident en left my best friend and their 2 year old son behind… I immediately flew back to Holland to be with her. It’s been tough and we wish the family and friends of Nicolas strength in these difficult times.

Rest In Peace Nicolas you ARE missed…

NOS studio sport came and filmed us on the Hintertux glacier and in Mayrhofen. Thanx to Maarten Tip and his filmer for dropping by and making the cool two films.
